Europe Diplomacy & Defense

For the past few years, the European Union has been seeking to act and speak with a single voice on the international scene. Although it has been successful in doing so in the Middle East and on the Iranian nuclear dossier, it is sometimes frustrated by internal division, such as that over the war in Iraq. Reflecting a European identity that has not yet reached maturity, European diplomacy will develop over coming years. More recently, the Union began working on a European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) whose construction is moving forward at a sustained pace with undeniable success.

Focusing on ESDP in its civilian and military aspects, Europe Diplomacy & Defence will accompany Europe along the road towards defence autonomy without, however, neglecting the other essential player that ensures European security, NATO.

Published in English and French, Europe Diplomacy & Defence appears twice a week and is the only newsletter that provides information at this pace on key EU and NATO decisions, with analysis and comments by players and experts on defence matters, reports and practical information. As the essential complement to the Europe Daily Bulletin, its aim is to complete information on all issues relating to EU Security Strategy and to follow the preparation of diplomatic action and civil and military operations at the level of specialised groups within the Council and the Political and Security Committee. It also provides regular information on the European Defence Agency, the activities of the EU Institute for Security Studies, and those of Member States, the WEU and OSCE.

Subscription to this publication includes documents and as many special editions as required to keep apace with events of the day.

Europe Diplomacy & Defence takes over from Atlantic News on 1 February 2007. First published on 24 November 1967, Atlantic News, whose original aim was to cover the activities of the Atlantic Alliance and the Western European Union, had gradually extended coverage to ESDP. The last issue, No. 3842, appeared on 30 January 2007.
